Egypt trip cost guide

How much does a trip to Cairo cost?

Plan CAI transfers, Downtown or Giza accommodation, metro journeys and separate pyramid and Egyptian Museum visits in your Cairo budget.

Lodging-only examples for 3, 5, 7 nights

Planning estimates for two travelers sharing one room, lodging only. They are not live quotes and not a total trip budget: flights, food, transfers, local transport, activities and fees are excluded. A price you enter in the calculator always replaces these estimates. Totals are calculated from the nightly rate and rounded to whole euros.

Arriving in Cairo

Use the actual booking gateway, Cairo International Airport (CAI), when arranging arrival transport. The airport's passenger guide discusses taxis and shuttle arrangements; confirm the pickup terminal and destination with the provider. A hotel in central Cairo and a hotel near the Giza plateau are different transfers. Do not turn a general city-centre quote into a Giza quote.

Airport transfers are a separate budget line. Where a reliable fare is not available, Fareveal shows it as unknown rather than zero.

Getting around Cairo

Cairo's metro is useful for selected urban journeys, but a station near an area is not the same as a direct ride to every attraction. The governorate identifies Sadat for Tahrir, Mar Girgis for Coptic Cairo and Giza station for onward buses toward the pyramids. Plan the final leg separately, particularly when combining the river, historic neighbourhoods and Giza.

A budget trade-off

Choose between a central Cairo base and a Giza-oriented stay according to what you actually want to see. Staying near the pyramids can simplify an early visit there while adding journeys for central museums and evening plans. For a short trip, cluster attractions geographically and allow for road traffic rather than making the Nile crossings invisible in the budget.

Attractions and discretionary spending

Treat the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Giza plateau as distinct visits, with their own admission and transport decisions. A museum day can pair naturally with central Cairo; a Giza day should have its own route and return arrangement. Choose any guide for the interpretation you need and confirm precisely which entrance, museum or monument its booking includes.

Two ways this budget can change

  • A central culture trip can use a Downtown base, the Egyptian Museum and metro-linked neighbourhoods, with a separately organised Giza day.
  • A pyramids-led visit can prioritise Giza accommodation, then budget deliberate central-Cairo journeys instead of assuming every evening is nearby.

Fees and easy-to-miss costs

Fareveal does not yet publish a verified local-fee amount for Cairo. Confirm any mandatory charges on your booking before treating a total as final. Entry and visa rules depend on each traveler.

Worth checking

  • Confirm CAI terminal and the exact hotel district.
  • Distinguish Tahrir's Egyptian Museum from other museum bookings.
  • Plan the final leg from Giza station to the plateau.
  • Confirm guide scope, attraction admission and return transport separately.
  • Allow for cross-city road journeys when selecting accommodation.
