South Africa trip cost guide

How much does a trip to Cape Town cost?

Plan CPT road transfers, central or coastal accommodation and peninsula outings. Check the MyCiTi airport suspension before budgeting transport.

Lodging-only examples for 3, 5, 7 nights

Planning estimates for two travelers sharing one room, lodging only. They are not live quotes and not a total trip budget: flights, food, transfers, local transport, activities and fees are excluded. A price you enter in the calculator always replaces these estimates. Totals are calculated from the nightly rate and rounded to whole euros.

Arriving in Cape Town

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) requires its own arrival plan. MyCiTi's official airport-services page currently states that the airport service is temporarily suspended, so do not budget an operating MyCiTi airport shuttle from an old route map. Arrange an appropriate road transfer and confirm its pickup instructions, luggage capacity and exact hotel destination before arrival.

Airport transfers are a separate budget line. Where a reliable fare is not available, Fareveal shows it as unknown rather than zero.

Getting around Cape Town

Urban MyCiTi journeys and airport transport are separate decisions. Select local routes for the places actually on your itinerary rather than assuming the entire peninsula uses the same network. The City Bowl, Bo-Kaap and waterfront can form a coherent city programme, while journeys to beaches, mountain access points and destinations beyond the centre require deliberate transport planning.

A budget trade-off

A central base can reduce repeated journeys for city sightseeing, while a coastal stay places a different landscape outside your door. A rental car may suit a peninsula programme but brings parking, pickup and driving decisions; a city-focused visitor can compare individual transfers instead. Keep wine-country excursions and Cape Peninsula travel visible rather than hiding them inside a generic daily allowance.

Attractions and discretionary spending

Bo-Kaap is a living Cape Malay neighbourhood, not simply a colourful-photo stop. Build a respectful walking visit around its streets and cultural context. Keep major outdoor outings flexible and check the chosen operator before committing the rest of the day. A waterfront programme, a mountain visit and a peninsula excursion serve different interests and should not be treated as interchangeable add-ons.

Two ways this budget can change

  • For a city-focused visit, choose a central base and a confirmed airport road transfer, then assess local walking and MyCiTi routes individually.
  • For a peninsula-led trip, compare car hire with organised day transport, keeping parking and excursion coverage separate from accommodation.

Fees and easy-to-miss costs

Fareveal does not yet publish a verified local-fee amount for Cape Town. Confirm any mandatory charges on your booking before treating a total as final. Entry and visa rules depend on each traveler.

Worth checking

  • Use CPT and a confirmed airport road-transfer arrangement.
  • Recheck the official MyCiTi airport-service suspension before travel.
  • Separate urban MyCiTi routes from airport and peninsula transfers.
  • Confirm any outdoor attraction's operating status for your day.
  • Include vehicle capacity, parking and return journeys in comparisons.
