Arriving in Jakarta
Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK), in Tangerang, and Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP), in eastern Jakarta, create different arrival journeys. Check the airport printed on the booking before comparing transfers. A hotel near a transport interchange can make onward travel easier, but the first journey still includes the walk or ride from that interchange to reception. Keep a road-transfer option for luggage-heavy arrivals.

Getting around Jakarta
Jakarta is a collection of districts rather than a compact sightseeing centre. The MRT station list includes Dukuh Atas, Bundaran HI and the Sudirman corridor; use the operator map to build a connected day rather than assuming the railway reaches every landmark. Kota Tua and the northern heritage area deserve their own route plan. Walking is most useful within a chosen neighbourhood, with onward transport between clusters.
A budget trade-off
An accommodation decision near the business corridor suits a trip mixing meetings, shopping and restaurants. A heritage-focused itinerary places more value on convenient access to Kota Tua. Compare the actual location with each planned outing: a room that looks economical can become less convenient when every day involves crossing the city. A Thousand Islands excursion should be treated as a separate travel day, not another downtown stop.
Attractions and discretionary spending
Kota Tua brings together Fatahillah Square, the Jakarta History Museum and the Wayang Museum; pick museum visits deliberately instead of assuming every building has the same admission arrangement. Glodok and Sunda Kelapa offer different perspectives on the wider historic area. Combine a focused heritage walk with a meal nearby, leaving time for the return journey rather than stacking a distant shopping district into the same afternoon.

- Heritage stay: concentrate your first outing on Kota Tua and select museums individually, then compare a central hotel with one convenient for the northern districts.
- Business and sightseeing: choose a base around the MRT corridor and reserve a separate block for the Old Town, adding the last-mile journey to your estimate.
