India trip cost guide

How much does a trip to Mumbai cost?

Plan a BOM arrival for Colaba or a suburban stay. Compare Mumbai railway and road journeys, Gateway of India visits and harbour excursions.

Lodging-only examples for 3, 5, 7 nights

Planning estimates for two travelers sharing one room, lodging only. They are not live quotes and not a total trip budget: flights, food, transfers, local transport, activities and fees are excluded. A price you enter in the calculator always replaces these estimates. Totals are calculated from the nightly rate and rounded to whole euros.

Arriving in Mumbai

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) serves Mumbai through different terminals. Confirm the arrival terminal and pickup point with the airport or your booked operator. The airport publishes taxi, app-based car and public-transport choices; each must be matched to the accommodation address. A Colaba hotel and a suburban stay lead to very different arrival routes, so compare the complete journey rather than a single airport-transfer label.

Airport transfers are a separate budget line. Where a reliable fare is not available, Fareveal shows it as unknown rather than zero.

Getting around Mumbai

Mumbai’s suburban railway has Western, Central and Harbour corridors, while road transport covers the final journey to many addresses. Choose a transport plan suited to your comfort with busy stations and luggage instead of assuming the shortest map line is the easiest route. Organise south-Mumbai visits together, then give any suburban outing its own block. This avoids spending the sightseeing day repeatedly travelling between distant neighbourhoods.

A budget trade-off

Colaba is a practical focus for a Gateway of India outing, while accommodation closer to the airport or a suburban meeting can suit a different trip. Test the hotel location against the purpose of the visit. A cheaper room may need additional daily journeys to your chosen sights; an airport-area night can instead be sensible before departure. Keep a sea excursion distinct from a city walk, including its return connection.

Attractions and discretionary spending

The Gateway of India gives a south-Mumbai day a clear starting point, with Colaba as the surrounding neighbourhood rather than an isolated photo stop. Select museum interiors, guided walks or boat excursions according to your interests and verify ticket inclusions before booking. A harbour trip is not interchangeable with a walk along the waterfront: it changes the transport, weather exposure and time available for the rest of the itinerary.

Two ways this budget can change

  • South-Mumbai break: choose a base for Colaba, compare the full BOM transfer and keep the Gateway area and nearby visits in one outing.
  • Business plus leisure: stay near the work destination and plan a dedicated south-Mumbai day with separate outward and return journeys.

Fees and easy-to-miss costs

Fareveal does not yet publish a verified local-fee amount for Mumbai. Confirm any mandatory charges on your booking before treating a total as final. Entry and visa rules depend on each traveler.

Worth checking

  • Confirm the BOM terminal and collection point.
  • Check the hotel neighbourhood before comparing airport transfers.
  • Group south-Mumbai sights rather than crossing the city repeatedly.
  • Verify the railway corridor and final walk for a public-transport route.
  • Separate harbour excursions from land-based sightseeing.
