Iceland trip cost guide

How much does a trip to Reykjavik cost?

Distinguish KEF from RKV, compare hotel transfer endpoints and plan Hallgrímskirkja, harbour days and weather-sensitive excursions.

Lodging-only examples for 3, 5, 7 nights

Planning estimates for two travelers sharing one room, lodging only. They are not live quotes and not a total trip budget: flights, food, transfers, local transport, activities and fees are excluded. A price you enter in the calculator always replaces these estimates. Totals are calculated from the nightly rate and rounded to whole euros.

Arriving in Reykjavik

Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and Reykjavík's domestic airport (RKV) are different places. Use the code on your booking when arranging a transfer. The city's official tourism guidance describes coach, public-bus and taxi options from KEF; compare the final drop-off and hotel approach rather than assuming every product described as Reykjavík transport takes you to the same endpoint.

Airport transfers are a separate budget line. Where a reliable fare is not available, Fareveal shows it as unknown rather than zero.

Getting around Reykjavik

Central Reykjavík can support a walking programme, including the area around Hallgrímskirkja and the Old Harbour, but a city walk and a wider Iceland outing need different transport plans. Check the pickup location for a booked excursion and whether you must reach a designated stop. A rental-car decision should reflect countryside days and parking needs, not just airport arrival.

A budget trade-off

A central base can simplify restaurants and city exploring; a property chosen for driving may better serve a trip spending substantial time outside Reykjavík. Compare accommodation with the actual excursion pattern. Weather-sensitive outings also need flexibility, so avoid filling every remaining period with non-refundable bookings that depend on a tour returning at exactly the expected moment.

Attractions and discretionary spending

Hallgrímskirkja's tower is a distinct admission choice, while the Old Harbour and Grandi form a neighbourhood programme with their own cultural and dining possibilities. Decide whether your stay emphasises the city or organised nature outings before selecting paid activities. Confirm operator cancellation and pickup arrangements for any boat or countryside excursion rather than assuming all Reykjavík departure products work alike.

Two ways this budget can change

  • A city-and-tours stay can choose central accommodation, confirm designated excursion pickups and keep harbour or Hallgrímskirkja visits flexible.
  • A driving-led Iceland stay can compare rental pickup and parking with a city-centre base, separating Reykjavík days from longer countryside travel.

Fees and easy-to-miss costs

Fareveal does not yet publish a verified local-fee amount for Reykjavik. Confirm any mandatory charges on your booking before treating a total as final. Entry and visa rules depend on each traveler.

Worth checking

  • Distinguish KEF from RKV before arranging transport.
  • Confirm coach drop-off and the final hotel approach.
  • Check designated pickup stops for every booked excursion.
  • Separate tower admission from general church or neighbourhood visits.
  • Compare cancellation conditions for weather-sensitive activities.
