China trip cost guide

How much does a trip to Shanghai cost?

Compare PVG and SHA hotel connections, organise Bund and Yuyuan Garden days and keep airport links and attraction tickets separate.

Lodging-only examples for 3, 5, 7 nights

Planning estimates for two travelers sharing one room, lodging only. They are not live quotes and not a total trip budget: flights, food, transfers, local transport, activities and fees are excluded. A price you enter in the calculator always replaces these estimates. Totals are calculated from the nightly rate and rounded to whole euros.

Arriving in Shanghai

Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA) are different airport gateways. The municipal government describes their metro connections and the Airport Link Line, so select the route for the airport and terminal on your booking. A connection between airports is not automatically the best route to your hotel; compare the final destination and any onward urban transfer before choosing a service.

Airport transfers are a separate budget line. Where a reliable fare is not available, Fareveal shows it as unknown rather than zero.

Getting around Shanghai

Use the metro as a route-planning tool, then check station exits and the final approach to each attraction. The Bund waterfront, Yuyuan Garden and a Pudong skyline visit can form distinct blocks instead of repeated river crossings throughout the day. Confirm the ticket or payment method you intend to use against the operator's guidance, especially for services with different coverage.

A budget trade-off

A hotel convenient for central sightseeing and one chosen for Hongqiao travel or a specific Pudong destination offer different advantages. Decide which daily journeys dominate before comparing room prices. A brief city stay can focus on historic waterfront and garden experiences, while adding a theme-park day requires a separate transport and admission decision rather than a spare-hour detour.

Attractions and discretionary spending

Yuyuan Garden is a traditional garden beside the City God Temple in Huangpu; the Bund is a historic waterfront district. Do not confuse Yuyuan Garden with Yuyuan Road, which is a different neighbourhood. Give a garden visit its own admission check and treat seasonal festivals as date-specific products, not permanent features that every trip can count on.

Two ways this budget can change

  • A central culture stay can group Yuyuan and historic waterfront exploration, choosing useful metro access rather than an airport-area hotel by default.
  • A mixed city-and-theme-park trip can reserve a separate park day and route, keeping central sightseeing and airport travel as independent cost decisions.

Fees and easy-to-miss costs

Fareveal does not yet publish a verified local-fee amount for Shanghai. Confirm any mandatory charges on your booking before treating a total as final. Entry and visa rules depend on each traveler.

Worth checking

  • Confirm PVG or SHA and the actual arrival terminal.
  • Compare hotel routes with airport-to-airport connections separately.
  • Check your payment method's coverage for each service.
  • Distinguish Yuyuan Garden from Yuyuan Road.
  • Verify festival dates and any separate attraction admission.
